Enjoy Learning
with
Reuben

Hi, my name is Reuben, and I'm on a mission to help your child discover the joy of learning.

I find delight in seeing a child's confidence, self-esteem and love of learning rapidly grow, as they discover how smart they can be and their ability to excel at Maths, English and whatever they set their mind to.

My philosophy is that effective learning, appropriately tailored to a child, can truly be enjoyed, and mastery is possible for every child.

About Me

I am an education Doctor (University of Bristol) with a specialism in learning engagement, learner-identity and interventions. I have years of experience implementing and developing learning and engagement interventions in primary and secondary schools across Bristol, as well as developing inclusive learning resources for international use. From 2017 until 2021, I managed a supplementary Maths and English tuition service in Bristol, facilitating a team of tutors to support primary and secondary learners of various backgrounds.

Presently, I work full-time as a children and young people wellbeing practitioner in select schools around North Bristol. In my spare time I take on (a maximum of) 6 one-to-one academic coaching and SEMH (Social Emotional and Mental Health) mentoring cases, at any time.

I offer an hour per session of primary Maths, English, SATs or all-ages Resilience-and-Emotion-Regulation Coaching; or 1hr 30mins combinations of these (see packages) normally once a week. I am currently prioritising primary SATs coaching.

Approach

  • My approach is revisionist, diagnostic and remedial, and broadly draws from Self-Determination Theory which recognises a child's need of a sense of autonomy, competency and belonging in order to be fully engaged.
  • By initial general assessment, I work out your child’s unique strengths, learning gaps and needs, and target tuition accordingly, thereby maximising their engagement and competency reinforcement.
  • I creatively apply various instructional and practice strategies to build their conceptual understanding and skills-mastery, taking their unique learning style into consideration.
  • Quick games and play are incorporated into the sessions, enabling the child feel relaxed, safe and connected, enjoy the learning experience and offer their full engagement.
  • The sessions have been described as calming, motivational, and improving children's attitude and relationship to learning.
